Make a Wish
About the design
On deep violet watercolour paper, a two-tier cake painted in gouache, in cream, powder pink and gold, carries eighteen thin candles, one for every year. As it opens the room is dark and the cake barely shows: a match travels from wick to wick and lights them one after another, with sparks, the light grows, and the title writes itself in gold, in Imperial Script. The name and the lines are set in Playfair Display. The countdown burns in four candles, and the album hangs on a string of fairy lights.

Coming of Age
Which events it suits
It is drawn for a coming of age: the 18 candles are painted on the cake, so it stays a coming-of-age invitation. Every guest who replies yes sees the candles go out by themselves, as after a wish, while a lantern with their name rises. The photos sit in watercolour blots, warm with candlelight. Midnight and Burgundy change the paper, the ink and the gold; the gouache stays.
