Watercolour Cake
About the design
On white watercolour paper, a pink cake painted in broad strokes, its left edge frayed, fuchsia peonies and olive leaves on its top, stands on a black stand painted with a dry brush and, on a phone, runs off the page to the right. As it opens the cake paints itself from right to left, the peonies bloom, the “1” and “8” candles are set in and light with sparks, and a warm glow spreads over the paper. The title is handwritten in Ephesis, the small lines in Libre Baskerville, the name in spaced italic capitals.

Coming of Age
Which events it suits
It is drawn for a coming of age: “18” is painted into the cake's candles, so it stays a coming-of-age invitation. Every guest who replies yes gets a slice of cake with their name on a paper flag, and its candle lights. The photos sit in watercolour blots, the album is a row of taped polaroids. Powder pink and Sage change the paper and the ink; the watercolour stays.
