About the design
The scene is an afternoon fairground: a striped canopy turns under a line of bunting, the festoon bulbs around its valance stay lit, the horses rise and fall on their brass poles, and confetti is already drifting across the page. Grandstander — a face drawn for fairground signage — carries the name with the canopy's colours running through it, Rubik handles the text, and mint or blueberry repaint the stripes rather than the fair. Cards are ticket stubs: the date is the entry ticket with punched corners, and a scalloped striped awning hangs over the ceremony and over the reply card.
Which events it suits
A fairground has no age. At a christening the church service and the meal at the restaurant become two attractions, each under its own scalloped awning, and the guest is handed a ride ticket rather than a wine glass. A birthday has one attraction, the party, and the whole carousel turns around it. Candy red, brass and mint stay on cream.
